Nowpora Jagir residents protest against waster scarcity

Sopore: Inhabitants of Nowpora Jagir area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday staged protest against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for failing to provide adequate drinking water supply to them from the last 20 days.
The aggrieved protesters took to streets and blocked the Sopore-Wagoora road for several hours, halting the vehicular movement there.
Protesters said that PHE department has utterly failed to provide adequate water supply to them.
“The womenfolk in our area are being forced to walk miles to fetch drinking water,” Mehraj-ud-din Lone, a local resident said.
“Shrakwara Water Supply Scheme next to our village meant for the area is not providing water to the residents here,” Gulshan Begum, another resident said, adding that it is unfortunate that in the modern era, people are being deprived of the basic amenities.
Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Kreeri along with SHO reached the spot and assured the protesters that they will take up their grievance with the higher ups.
