3 Army men injured in Pak shelling in Poonch

Jammu: Three Army men were injured in intermittent firing and shelling by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, officials said Friday.

The Army officials said intermittent firing was underway when reports last came in.

The Pakistan Army continued firing and shelling overnight along the LoC in the Krishnagati sector of Poonch district, the officials said.

In the firing and shelling, three jawans suffered minor splinter injuries, they said.

Yesterday, a 45-year-old woman was killed in shelling by the Pakistani troops along the LoC in the KG sector of Poonch.

Meanwhile, the LoC flare up issue came up in the Assembly today after which members of opposition staged protest demonstrations against the continuous shelling along the borders of Jammu region.

 Soon after the assembly session started, MLA Kangan Mian Altaf supported by other legislators stood up from their chairs and condemned the killing of 47-year-old woman in Mendhar area on Thursday evening.

 According to reports,  the legislators of NC including Mian Altaf, Ali Mohammadd Sagar and others sought speaker’s attention and demanded chief minister’s Mehbooba Mufti’s statement over the continuous selling along the border.

 “For how long shall it continue and innocent lives be lost,” they said.

 Pertinently, 47-year-old woman Zanib B wife of Nazir Hussain of Balnoie, Mendhar Poonch died in the spot after a motor shell hit her house last evening.

 Meanwhile, an army soldier was injured late Thursday evening in the shelling by Pakistani forces in Krishna Ghati sector. The injured soldier was airlifted to military hospital Udhampur for treatment.
