Srinagar: United Jihad Council (UJC) Thursday supported the protest and strike call given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on Feb 09 and 11 to commemorate the anniversaries of Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Bhat respectively.

In an e-mailed statement issued to local news gathering agencies, UJC spokesman, Syed Sadaqat Hussain quoted its chief, Syed Salah-ud-din as saying, “Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Bhat are two shining starts who played a pivotal role to make Kashmiris understand the meaning of freedom and to expose the Indian democracy and its judicial system.”

He said that the two leaders sacrificed their lives instead of bowing down.

“The two leaders by sacrificing their lives explained that a day of freedom is much better than the life of a slave,” he said.

“The Indian authorities have failed to bury their message by hanging them in Tihar jail,” he said, adding that “there is no doubt that the martyrs are chandelier of freedom struggle and their sacred blood won’t go waste.”
