2016 unrest left 122 women injured, says govt

Jammu: The government on Thursday said that at least 122 women were injured in Kashmir during the 2016 unrest. The government also admitted that the scores of people were killed and injured in during the unrest and its aftermath.

This was revealed in a written reply to a query raised by National Conference (NC) MLA Shamim Firdous during the question hour of the House.

Firdous in her query had sought the number of women who were injured in Kashmir during 2016 unrest.

“During the year 2016, 697 FIRs were registered against various persons on account of damaging civilian property,” Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who also holds charge of the Home department, informed the House.

Mehbooba in her written reply further said that the House that window glass panes and doors of a house belonging to Fayaz Ahmad Wani of Sharshali were damaged by security forces.

“Window glass panes and doors of house of Abdul Ahad Sheikh and Wali Muhammad Mango of Sharshali were also damaged,” she said, adding that FIR was registered against the security forces in this regard.
