SMHS attack: govt suspends Superintendent of Srinagar Central Jail

Srinagar: The J&K government on Thursday suspended Superintendent of Central Jail, Srinagar following the killing of two policemen and escapade of a top Lashkar militant from the hospital.

According to the sources, Hilal Ahmad Rather was suspended with immediate effect and has been asked to report DG Prisons till further orders.

“Pending inquiry into the incident on 6th February 2018, at SMHS hospital, Srinagar, leading to the death of two Constables and escape of a terrorist, Mr Hilal Ahmad Rather, Superintendent, Central Jail, Srinagar is herby placed under suspension, with immediate effect,” the order said.

Meanwhile, the Police have arrested at least six people who are believed to have helped  Pakistani militant Naveed Jat alias Hanzulla escape from custody during a hospital visit for a medical check-up.

According to the sources, the officials investigating the case got some clues from the CCTV footage and, on the basis of that, raids were carried out at several locations in south Kashmir’s Pulwama and Shopian districts last night.
