Assault: Kashmiri student alleges battering in Haryana

Srinagar: A Kashmiri student was assaulted by a group of locals at Ambala area of Haryana on Wednesday, barely four days after two students from Rajouri district were beaten to pulp in the north Indian state.

Reports said that a student of B.Sc Radiology, identified as Mudasir Ahmad, a resident, of Soura Srinagar suffered injuries after a group of locals caught and thrashed him near the hostel room of Maharishi Markandeshwar University where he is pursuing his degree. “From last month, the group of locals thrashed several students and are continuously hurling abuses on us for being Kashmiris,” Aqib Ahmad, a student said.

“Today the group of local persons initially hurled abuses on Mudasir and hit him with a stone, resulting in injuries to his face,” he said, adding, “We took him to a local hospital for treatment”, he said.

Mudasir and other students were travelling to the hostel from the varsity when they were attacked near a petrol pump in the area.

Mullana Station House Officer (SHO) when contacted told a local news gathering agency that a police team was deputed to the spot soon after they received information with regard to the incident.

 “We have received information about a scuffle which took place near the University and we have deputed a police team to ascertain the cause of the incident,” the SHO said.

 “Let the student record his statement and definitely we will register an FIR and action under the law will be initiated against the accused,” the SHO said.

On Friday, two students Amjad Ali and Aaftab Ahmad both residents of Rajouri district were assaulted by a group of 15 students when the duo was returning to their university after offering Friday prayers.

The incident lead to an uproar in the assembly, as the government assured action against those who beat up the students and ensuring measures to prevent such incidents in future. (GNS)
