Jammu: Awami Itehaad Party (AIP) president and MLA Langate, Engineer Abdul Rasheed Sheikh on Monday participated in the sit-in organized by ‘All Tribal Coordination Committee’ (ATCC) to seek justice for Aasifa, a minor girl hailing from Kathua. The eight year old girl was raped and murdered last month.

The Langate legislator accused the government of adopting criminal attitude over the murder of Aasifa.

Participating in a sit-in at Press Club Jammu, Er Rasheed appealed people of Jammu to see the issue through angle of humanity.

Talking to media persons, Er Rasheed reminded people of Jammu of their huge support for Nirbhaya, the victim of rape and murder in Delhi and said that “the silence by the civil society of Jammu, traders, lawyers, students and politicians has forced the people of a particular community to which the victim child belongs to hold peaceful indefinite sit-in at Press Club Jammu.”

“While the incident should be a concern for all but even the Indian media is maintaining criminal silence thus exposing its double standards. Role of the civil and police administration is quite disappointing and the family of the deceased child has started feeling frustrated as the killers are roaming free and goons are threatening the entire community one way or the other,” he said.

Er Rasheed while appealing for communal harmony reminded the administration that the silence should not be seen as a weakness and the government must use all its efforts to nab the culprits.

He also expressed deep concern over the harassment being made among the inhabitants living in and near forest areas in Jammu province and appealed the government to implement the forest Act, which protects the rights of the inhabitants living in and around the forests.
