Srinagar: Chairman, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Muhammad Yasin Malik strongly condemned the prolonged incarceration of Doctor Muhammad Qasim Faktoo and others who completed his 25 years in jail.

Terming the prolonged incarceration of Doctor Faktoo, Ghulam Qadir Bhat and professor Muhammad Shafi Khan (Sharaiti) as ‘grave violation of existing international and even Indian laws’, Malik said that Kashmiris are being put in jails for their political beliefs and under the pretext of various redundant grounds their incarceration is prolonged and they along with their families are put to hardships.

JKLF chairman said that Doctor Faktoo is a religious scholar and a prominent political figure and he and others are being put to hardships for his political belief.

“Dozens of other inmates including Syed Sajid Hassan Bukhari are languishing in Indian jails since more than two decades,” Malik said, adding that no one is paying heed to their plight.

He said that according to the Jail manual of Jammu Kashmir and various Indian states Doctor Faktoo, Ghulam Qadir Bhat and other inmates should have got freedom from jails long before but as in other cases vis-à-vis Jammu Kashmir, contemporary international and even Indian laws are being trampled under military boots and the political incarceration of these inmates is being prolonged under various petty excuses.

Malik appealed ICRC and other international human rights organizations to take note of these gross human rights violations and rights of prisoners and save the lives of these Kashmiri inmates.

Malik paid tributes to martyrs Advocate Muhammad Hussein, Muhammad Yakoob Khan (Chataiee), Ghulam Muhammad and Muhammad Maqbool Teli on their martyrdom day.

Recalling the sacrifices of these martyrs, Malik said that “these martyrs sacrificed their today for our tomorrow.”

Paying tributes to Advocate Hussein, Malik said that he was a highly educated person who embraced martyrdom at JKLF headquarters. He expressed solidarity with their families.

JKLF also paid tributes to innocent Zahid Farooq on his martyrdom day today.
