Srinagar: Government on Monday said the need of the hour is to take forward the former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s peace and reconciliation process.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Rehman Veeri informed the house that J&K is most affected and the peace and reconciliation is the only way out. .

“The need of the hour is to restart and carry out the Vajpayee’s peace process,” he said.

Former chief minister Omar Abdullah endorsed Veeri’s statement and demanded a resolution from this house for peace.

“Is house say ek resolution jana chaihiye… Vajpayee ne Pakistan se baat ki thee… ab ek resolution jana chahiye, ceasefire ko amli jaama pehnaane ki zarurat hai (A resolution should come from this house… Vajpayee had talked to Pakistan… this ceasefire issue has to be resolved),” Omar said.

BJP legislators protested against Pakistan over the border killings.

Earlier, a PDP legislator Javid Beigh said shouting anti-Pakistan slogans in the house will not resolve the problem.

“Shouting anti-Pak slogans will escalate more tension and two armies are at the forefront. Lives are being lost from both the sides including civilians and armies,” he said.

“An appeal should be shot from this house to prevent this continuous shelling of violence,” Beigh added.

Over the border killings, ruling lawmakers of PDP including the minister Abdul Rehman Veeri and opposition NC were seen on the same line while demanding end to the shelling and peace on the borders. (GNS)
