Shopian killings: Lawyers stage protest in Srinagar

Srinagar:  A group of lawyers Saturday took out a march in protest against the recent killings of three civilians allegedly in firing by security forces in Shopian district, police said.

The lawyers assembled outside the court complex here and took out the march, a police official said.

A spokesman of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association expressed concern over the killings in Shopian last week and the “war-like situation” along the border.

“The Bar Association, while condemning the killings, demands immediate arrest of the guilty Army officials,” the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, Bar Association Anantnag also protested against the killings in Shopian, assault of students in Haryana, and rape, murder of minor girl Asifa in Kathua.

The protest was lead by Fayaz Ahmad Sodagar President Bar Association.

All the lawyers of Anantnag participated in the protest march from District court complex to Lal chowk .

The lawyers were chanting slogans against government machinery, armed forces and in favour of ‘Azadi’.

The president of Bar Association Fayaz Ahmad Sodagar demanded that army personnel involved in the killing of innocent boys in Shopian and injuries to scores of people be arrested at earliest and also demanded a judicial probe by a sitting high court judge.

Sodagar also demanded the arrest of real culprits of Kathua minor girl who was murdered and physically assaulted.
