My son was attacked for being a Muslim, says father

Jammu: The father of one of the students beaten in Haryana said his son was beaten for being a Muslim.
Abdul Qayoom father of a ‘victim student’ said his son went to offer Friday prayers some 30 kilometers away from the central university of Haryana and was beaten by a group of 15 to 20 people while he was returning back.
“Every Friday he goes to this mosque and also makes some purchases from nearby market. But while he was returning from mosque he was seen by a group of students and attacked as he was wearing a skull cap,” Abdul Qayoom told media person.
He said that his son was beaten for being a Muslim.
Qayoom said his son was left injured on the road and was taken to hospital for treatment by other two Hindu students.
“They identified him as their classmate and shifted him to hospital for treatment,” Qayoom said and urged the government to provide safety and security to his son and other students of the state who are studying outside the state.
“I am a lower rung government employee and I urge the government to arrest the culprits and advise them that these incident vitiate peace in the state and the country.”
“It won’t bear any fruitful results if students from Kashmir will be attacked outside the state and students from other states will be harassed here. Such incidents will divide people on religious lines and should be stopped,” he said.
Meanwhile, minister for food, civil suppliers, consumer’s affairs and tribal affairs Chowdhary Zulfiqar Ali has written to Chief Minister of Haryana and expressed displeasure over the assault on two students of Rajouri district on Friday.
The minister in his letter has urged the Haryana CM to pass necessary instructions to the administration and police in order to ensure safety of all the students.
“It is unfortunate that two students of my native village who are pursuing PG courses in Central University Haryana were assaulted by some miscreants,” Ali in his letter has said.
“We have talked to victim students who narrated the whole incident. There are around 82 students in the University who are felling unsafe,” the letter reads.
The minister has also raised concern about the safety of the students pursuing courses in the University.
“We request you to kindly take stern action against the culprits involved in attacking our students,” the letter reads.
