Five notorious drug peddlers arrested

Kupwara: Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested five notorious drug peddlers in Lolab and Karnah areas of the district and recovered six kgs of Charas and 200 gms of Brown Sugar from their possession.

Police officials said that the based on specific information, special team of Kupwara arrested two drug in Karnah who they identified as Mumtaz Ahmad Shah, son of Mehboob Shah, resident of Prada Karnah and Amreez Ahmad Badan, son of Mohd Sarwar, resident of Amrohi Karnah and recovered 200 Gms of Brown Sugar from their possession.

“During an another action by special team, 03 notorious drug peddlers namely Gh Mustafa Mughal, son of Mohd Munawar Mughal, resident of Gratnard Khurhama, Shabir Ahmad Chohan, son of Gh Mohd Chohan, resident of Dardpora Lolab and Zahoor Ahmad Lone, son of Ghulam Mohd Lone, resident of Sogam have been arrested and 6 Kgs of Charas have been recovered from their possession,” they said.

Cases under NDPS Act have been registered at P/S Karnah, P/S Sogam and P/S Lalpora and the investigation is in progress.

54 notorious drug peddlers were arrested in last year while 31 Kgs of Charas, two Kgs of Heroine, 4.5 Kgs of Brown Sugar, huge quantity of codeine and banned drugs have been recovered from the possession of arrested drug peddlers.

A cross LoC narcotic smugglers module was also been busted and four notorious crossed LoC narcotic smugglers were arrested. Many addicted youth along with their parents have been counseled and their de-addictions is being arranged at de-addiction centre at Police Hospital PCR Srinagar.

Local residents of the district have eulogized the role of Police for launching effective campaign against drug peddlers and sale of psychotropic substances which according to locals are adversely affecting and ruining the future of the youth of the area. They have also express their gratitude to the J&K Police Chief S.P vaid under whose directions and guidance J&K Police is committed to eradicate the drug menace from the society.

District Police Kupwara has appealed the local residents to come forward and help the police to eradicate this menace from the society as this anti-drug drive shall continue in the year 2018 to make the society drug free.
