Shopian shuts for 6th consecutive day to mourn killings

Srinagar: A complete shutdown was being observed in most parts of Shopian district for sixth consecutive day on Tuesday against the recent civilian killings.

Witnesses said that all shops, business establishments, government and private offices are closed in the district while public and private transport is also off the roads.

Pertinently two militants and a civilian identified as Shakir were killed during encounter in Chaiegund area of district on last Wednesday evening.

Further on Saturday afternoon two civilians, Javaid Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Rashid Bhat of Balpora Shopian and Suhail Javaid Lone son of Javaid Ahmad Lone, were killed after government forces opened fire on protesters in Ganowpora village of Shopian district.
