Two civilians killed, nine injured after forces open fire in Shopian

Srinagar: Two civilians were killed and nine others injured after government forces opened fire on protesters in Ganowpora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday, reports said.

According to the reports, youth hurled rocks at the government forces in Ganowpora village. They said that forces responded by opening fire on the protesters, resulting into injuries to eleven people.

Reports added that the youth was identified as Javid Ahmad Bhat. He was brought to the district hospital Pulwama with critical head injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries. Another youth identified as Suhail Ahmad Khan, was shifted to PHC Bathipora where he was declared dead on arrival.

Source said that two injured, identified as Adil Ahmad and Suhail Ahmad, are being treated at the local hospital.

However, another youth, identified as Rayees Ahmad Ganai, was shifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment.

They said that another youth, identified as Suhail Ahmad Khan, was shifted to PHC Bathipora where he was declared dead on arrival.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Shopian confirmed the death of two civilians.
