Minister reviews functioning of departments

Jammu: Minister for Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Gani Kohli, chaired a meeting to review the functioning of Animal and Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Departments in district Kulgam here today.

The meeting was attended by MLA Kulgam, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Director Animal Husbandry, Kashmir Mohammad Yousuf Chaproo, Director Sheep Husbandry, Kashmir Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh, Director Fisheries R N Pandita and other senior officers of the Departments.

During the meeting, MLA briefed the Minister about the scope and potential of the animal, sheep and fisheries sectors in the district and urged for improvement in the existing infrastructure and other facilities under these sectors. He also asked the government for setting up of new poultry, sheep units and fish ponds in the district so that educated unemployed youth of the district could avail employment opportunities.

Kohli assured the legislator that due consideration will be given to the issues raised in the meeting. He directed the concerned officers to ensure every possible help in further improving the functioning of animal, sheep and fisheries sectors in the district.

Earlier, Head of the Departments presented details of achievements registered in their respective sectors under different shemes in the Kulgam.

Addressing the meeting, Kohli said that about 70% of the rural population is involved in agriculture and allied sectors and said that the animal, sheep and fisheries departments can play a significant role in boosting the rural economy. He stressed on effective implementation of the schemes for larger interest of youth of the State. He asked the officers to work with utmost dedication and achieve the fixed targets in a time bound manner.
