Govt may do away with SRO 202
Srinagar: The government on Monday hinted that it is working to scrap the much controversial SRO 202 under which those recruited after 2015 are entitled to receive meager wages for the period of five years.
Notably, SRO 202 was issued by the state government on June 30, 2015 and remains applicable thereafter. SRO 202 is a set of rules issued by the Governor (N N Vohra) under the powers conferred by the proviso to section 124 of the Constitution of the state.
Under the SRO 202, during the period of first five years, the government appointee shall be entitled to the minimum of scale of pay along with the grade pay applicable to the post against which he is appointed. And further every appointee shall after completion of five years period on probation be entitled to fixation of pay in the time-scale of pay applicable to the post against which he is appointed.
On Monday, speaking on behalf of the government, Revenue Minister Abdul Rahman Veeri while replying to the query submitted by PDP legislator Mohammad Khurshid Alam said that the government is rigorously considering revocation of the SRO 202.
While Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti herself was present in the Upper House of the state legislature, Veeri said that the government is all set to chalk out a strategy through which the new recruits in the government service are not affected and no discrimination in terms of their remuneration is done.
Importantly, PDP legislator Mohammad Khurshid Alam had sought government attention over the SRO 202 and how it is proving detrimental for the career of the educated youth of the state.
While pitching for its revocation, Alam had stated that it would be a sheer discrimination with the qualified youth of the state that after being recruited by the JKSSB, they would draw meager salaries that too when the wages of the daily wagers would be higher than theirs.
“The daily wagers who would be regularized would get more pay than those who are being selected by the recruitment agencies of the state. This is sheer discrimination and needs to be ended by the government without any delay,” Alam said while speaking in the legislative Council.
