Srinagar: Special Operation Group (SOG) of police on Saturday night arrested an alleged OGW during a cordon-and-search operation at Nowshera in Srinagar outskirts. Official sources told news agency GNS that a joint team of CARGO and CRPF launched a cordon at Nowshera following specific inputs about the movement of some JeM militants.

“During the search operation a suspected person was apprehended whom police blamed to be an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of militants”, they said.

The joint team of forces, in the meantime, intensified the searches in the locality last night and fired some warning shots towards the suspected spot; however, there was no response from the other side, they said.

Two militants reportedly escaped before the forces laid a siege in the area while taking advantage of the darkness, they said. A senior police officer while confirming the arrest of the OGW during the operation said that a vehicle (alto) bearing registration no JK01K-3482 was also recovered from his possession.

The officer identified the OGW as Musaib Ahmad Dar son of Mohd Shafi, a resident of Bus Stop, Old Ahmad Nagar, Soura.

“A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law in this regard and further investigations taken up”, the officer said. Meanwhile, the officer said that security has been heightened in parts of Srinagar and its outskirts to trace out the fleeing militants. (GNS)
