Anantnag: Police detained Awami Itehaad Party (AIP) president and MLA Langate, Engineer Abdul Rasheed Sheikh on his way to Homeshalibugh on Saturday where people were protesting against establishing a proposed Army Camp at Shamsipora, a spokesman said on Saturday.

According to the statement issued here, the spokesman said that as soon as Er Rasheed reached Galandhar, a contingent of police detained him and later lodged him in Police Station Pantha Chowk.

Party spokesman Adv. Maajid Banday while condemning the incident said that it is shameful on part of the government that it has not been able to fulfill the promise made with the people of Shamsipora, which was made yesterday in presence of Deputy Commissioner Anantnag.

Spokesman further added that the government is losing its credibility for the reason that rather taking bold decisions to resolve political dispute of Jammu and Kashmir, it has preferred to exploit and cheat those who voted it to power.

He condemned Er Rasheed’s detention and said that the administration stands badly exposed and it is an absolute breach of trust, rather than fulfilling the commitment the administration preferred to detain Er Rasheed only to fulfill its vicious designs, the spokesman added.
