Grenade blast rattles fragile peace in Pulwama

Srinagar: Five policemen and three civilians were injured in a grenade blast at Pulwama area of south Kashmir on Friday, police sources said.

They said that suspected militants lobbed a grenade towards police station Pulwama resulting in injuries to eight persons including five policemen.

Earlier, in a tweet, DIG South Kashmir said that four policemen were injured in the blast.

“Four Policemen received injury in the grenade blast at Pulwama. All are stated to be stable,” the police official said on Twitter.

SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudary told ‘Kashmir Vision’ that militants attacked a naka party of police outside the police station Pulwama.

“Our five personnel suffered injuries and have been hospitalized”, the SSP said.

He said that searches have been launched to nab the attackers.

“We have launched a search operation in the area to nab the militants,” Commanding Officer of 182 Battalion, CRPF said.

“We have received eight persons with splinter injuries most of them are policemen”, a doctor at the district hospital Pulwama said.

Meanwhile, as the government forces launched search operation to nab the attackers, youth in the area took to streets and pelted stones on the forces.

The forces retaliated and fired teargas shells and pellets on the protesters.

However, there was no report of any casualty during the clashes.
