After 28 days, injured civilian succumbs to injuries
Shopian: A 50 year old civilian who had sustained injuries during the clashes in Batmaran village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district Tuesday succumbed to his injuries after battling for life for 28 days.
Muhammad Ayoub Mir, son of late Ghulam Qadir Mir, resident of Molu-Chitragam received bullet injuries on 19 Dec, 2017 during the clashes at Batmaran-Wanpora village of Shopian when government forces were leaving from a gunfight in which two militants and a woman were killed and five residential houses and two cowsheds were razed to ground.
Mir, a father of four succumbed to his injuries today at his home when his family was preparing to visit Srinagar’s hospital for his medical checkup.
Gul Muhammad, Mir’s neighbor said that he was recovering and was discharged from the hospital about 15 days ago.
He however said that “today at around 9 am in morning, we were leaving for Srinagar for checkup but he felt unconscious. We rushed him to the Shopian hospital where doctors declared him as brought dead.”
Meanwhile, amid pro freedom, anti-India, pro Pakistan and militant slogans, hundreds of people attended the funeral prayers of the slain civilian.
Emotional scenes were witnessed during the last rites of Ayoub, witnesses said.
They said that the family of Ayoub has lost the sole bread earner.
They said that the slain man has no land or any kind of business. “He was earning his livelihood by working as a daily wager and was married to a non-local (Bengali) woman. He has left behind three sons and a daughter,” the locals said.
One of the family members said that Ayoub’s elder son Gowhar(16) left studies in class 9th since his father was not able to make two ends meet.
“Gowhar too was now helping his father by doing menial jobs,” he said.
