Jammu: Ruling Peoples Conference (PC) MLA from Kupwara, Bashir Ahmad Dar on Monday said the government should close the windows of corruption to carry forward the developmental works in the state.

The PC lawmaker was speaking during the discussion on J&K 2018-19 budget and said corruption was the only impediment in taking forward the developmental works.

“Government should take steps to address this issue because corruption has become a nuisance in the state. Moral speeches to officers won’t yield any results but government should close all the windows of corruption to make J&K a developed state,” MLA Kupwara said.

The ruling MLA said the government should implement the budget in letter and spirit on grounds.

“A mechanism should be devised to implement the budget in letter and spirit,” he said.

PDP MLA Yawar Ahmad Mir lashed out at opposition and held them responsible for eroding autonomy of J&K Bank.

The PDP lawmaker while speaking during a discussion on budget 2017-18 said the present government was clearing the liabilities created by the previous regime in the state.

“It was National Conference which put J&K Bank into the domain of Reserve Bank of India and marred its autonomy,” Yawar Mir said.

Yawar Mir was referring to statement of opposition member and senior NC leader who earlier in his speech blamed the finance minister for ruining the JK Bank.

“You made J&K Bank handicapped and that is why you had to infuse Rs 500 crore for it and the situation of the institution is worsening,” Sagar told the finance minister.

However, PDP MLA Yawar Mir said the present dispensation was clearing liabilities created by the previous coalition government.

“But Drabu is paying bills for it,” Yawar Mir said.

Senior Congress leader and MLA Inderwal, GM Saroori said the budget presented by finance minister was for the privileged class and said it had nothing to offer to people living in border and far flung areas.

The opposition Congress leader said the finance minister spoke about digital India which however won’t benefit the people living in border areas.

“People in my constituency don’t have any tower or receive any mobile signal in their areas. So how will your idea of digital India give them any benefits,” he said.

MLA Inderwal said the budget had nothing for people living in far flung areas like Karnah, Keran, Gurez, Doda and other areas in Chenab valley.

“Will your budget offer anything to people living in these areas where road connectivity is only 20 percent,” Saroori asked.
