Pak summons Indian envoy over ‘ceasefire violation’
Islamabad: Pakistan today summoned India’s acting deputy high commissioner over alleged “unprovoked firing” by Indian troops across the Line of Control (LoC) in which an elderly woman was killed. Meanwhile, armies of the two countries continued to pound their locations in north Kashmir’s Uri area on the line of control.
The Foreign Office claimed that a 65-year old woman was killed in Peer Khana village yesterday after Indian troops violated the ceasefire in Kot Kotera Sector.
Director general (South Asia and Saarc) Mohammad Faisal summoned the acting Indian deputy high commissioner and “condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations” by Indian forces on January 11, the statement said.
He said “despite calls for restraint, India continues to indulge in ceasefire violations.”
“This unprecedented escalation in ceasefire violations by India is continuing from the year 2017 when the Indian forces committed more than 1900 ceasefire violations, Faisal claimed.
He said the ceasefire violations by India are a “threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation.” India, Pak trade fire along LoC in Uri
Meanwhile, India and Pakistan troops exchanged fire in Uri sector of north Kashmir.
An Indian Army official said that Pakistan army targeted the Indian positions along the Line of Control in Uri sector which was ‘effectively’ retaliated.
“Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing in Kamalkote area of Uri sector last evening, ” an Army official said adding that it was effectively retaliated by the Indian Army.
“There was a lull in firing around 2 am but the Pakistani troops resumed firing after day break again,” the official said.(With inputs from PTI)
