Two SKUAST-K scientists felicitated
New Delhi: Union Minister for Agriculture on Wednesday felicitated several scientists including two Kashmiri researchers for their contribution in documentation, characterisation and registration of various indigenous animal and poultry breeds and varieties.
The two scientists from Jammu and Kashmir who were felicitated are Dr Azmat Alam Khan, Associate Professor cum Senior Scientist, Division of LPM and Dr Henna Hamadani, Assistant Professor LPM, MLRI, Mansbal.
Two Kashmiri scientists were felicitated for documentation, characterisation and registration of Kashmir Geese (Anz).
At a glittering ceremony held on Wednesday at Acharya Jagdish Chander Bose Auditorium, Krishi Bhavan New Delhi, Minister of Agriculture and Family Welfare Radha Mohan felicitated these scientists.
Notably, the two Kashmiri scientists carried out a two yearlong study at the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry.
“Kashmir Geese locally called ‘Anz’ has become the first registered geese breed of India with Accession number INDIA_GEESE KASHMIRANZGEESE_180001,” said Dr Azmat Alam Khan. He said that it is a great occasion for the entire state as the study has given a registered breed certificate to the local geese bird.
Speaking on the occasion Radha Mohan, Minister of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare stressed upon the study of indigenous germ plasm and its conservation for the posterity.
The awardees Dr Alam and Dr Hamadani thanked Vice Chancellor and Director Research SKUAST-Kashmir, Dean Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Head Division of LPM for facilitating the study.
