Parents allege ‘cheating’ by coaching centre
Srinagar: Coaching centres have once again come under severe criticism for hoodwinking the parents and the students seeking admissions in these Institutes.
One of the coaching centers- ‘Ignited Minds’ has allegedly cheated the students under the garb of providing ‘free admissions’ to them if they secure top position in entrance test of the coaching centre.
The coaching centre, parents said issued an advertisement announcing “scholarship-cum-admission test.
“The highlights of the advertisement was that students obtaining rank 1 to 5 in the test will be given 100 per cent free admission, 5 to 10 rank students will be given 50 per cent rebate in fee and 10 to 15 rank holders 25 per cent rebate in the admission”, they said.
Parents alleged that after conducting the test, the institution failed to make the results public. The tests were conducted for students of 11th and 12th classes.
However, the institution used the jugglery of words saying it was not the percentage of marks obtained by the students but on the “percentile”.
They selected candidates of their choice for free admission – two from 12th class and three from 11th while ignoring the students who had secured first five positions, the parents said.
“When we approached the institutions, they justified the selection by using the magic terminology percentile instead of Percentage,” the parents of top 5 students said.
The move has questioned the school education department for its failure to regulate the functioning of coaching centres.
Meanwhile, the students alleged that private coaching centres take joint classes for class 11 and class 12th.
“We have made a hefty payments to the institutes for completion of syllabus of CBSE for class 11 and 12th class. The coaching for class 11 was started in May 2017 with the promise that entire syllabus would be completed by the January 15, 2018,” the students said.
The class 11 students and their parents said only 40 per cent syllabus has been completed till date while the class 11 students have been forced to sit with the students of class 12 to cover their syllabus in advance while leaving class 11 syllabus in mid way.
Despite repeated attempts, no official from the coaching centre was available for comments.
