Kupwara avalanches: Three bodies recovered, 46-year-old found alive under snow after 12-hours

Srinagar: Three bodies were recovered and one person was found alive under snow on Saturday after avalanches swept away two sumo vehicles at Khoni Nallah near Sadhna Top in Tangdar sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Official sources told GNS that three bodies two of them of females, recovered by rescue team comprising of police, SDRF, 3 JAKLI and 7 RR, besides local volunteers.

In a miraculous escape, a 46-year-old person was found alive at around 3:00 am by the rescuers after remaining under the huge mass of snow for more than 12 hours.

The person identified s Ghulam Nabi Bhat s/o Ali Mohd Bhat of Kalmoona, Taratpora was immediacy shifted to nearby hospital for treatment.

Multiple avalanches struck Khoni Nallah and swept away 7 to 9 persons.

Earlier, a beacon officer MP Singh died and another was injured in a separate avalanche near the Sadhana Top.

Almost three hours after the avalanches, a 7-year-old was found alive and shifted to Kupwara hospital from he was referred to Srinagar hospitalized treatment. (GNS)
