Srinagar: The protest dharna called by the National Health Mission (NHM) employees on Thursday entered 16th day as even the Minister for Health failed to convince the protesters about the steps taken for their regularization.

During the 16 day long period, various political parties and employees associations including DAK, EJAC and others extended their support to the cause of the NHM employees.

The DAK while extending their support have asked the regular employees to fill the gap in the health sector till the demands of NHM employees will be fulfilled.

Official sources said that the concerned Minister, Bali Bhagat held a meeting with the NHM employees and explained the protesters about the steps taken for their regularization.

“The NHM employees didn’t feel satisfied over the clarification of the Minister and left the venue disappointed,” they said.

They said that meeting was held some four days back.

They said that in view of the protest of NHM employees, the regular employees of the health department have been asked to work overtime to fill the gap of the NHM employees in the department, which was taking heavy toll on the patients.

Director NHM, Dr Mohan Singh admitted the meeting between NHM employees and Minister, saying that the NHM employees didn’t change their mind even after the Minister showed every development regarding their regularization.

Talking to Kashmir Vision, Dr Singh said that the employees protest was taking a heavy toll on the regular employees. “We have cancelled their leave and have asked them to fill the gap for the wellbeing of patients,” he said.

Earlier, the patients as well as the attendants at several hospitals said that the absence of employees from the hospitals is taking toll on the health care.

“We don’t get the proper treatment and other facilities in absence of the employees here,” they said.
