BJP legislator made to eat a ‘humble pie’
Jammu: After a BJP legislator demanded that the names of security personnel killed in should be included in list of obituary references, opposition members shot back by saying that the civilians killed in the year 2017 should also find inclusion in the list of obituary reference being read out in the House.
The opposition members raised their voice to oppose BJP lawmaker Ravinder Raina who said that names of the security forces including Army men, CRPF and Police personnel who lost their life in encounters and cross border shelling should be included in the list of obituary references.
“The names of all innocent civilians killed in the year 2017 should be included in the list of obituary references,” the opposition members shouted back countering Raina. The demand by the legislators made the BJP lawmaker to eat his words.
Independent lawmaker from Langate constituency Er Abdul Rashid turned aggressive and asked Raina that the House should include names of innocent women who were killed by security forces in Kashmir during encounters.
“Why are you silent on killings of innocent children and other civilians who were killed by forces? Why don’t you raise your voice on these issues,” Rashid asked the BJP lawmaker.
Rashid got open support from NC legislator and MLA Habbakadal saying that names of innocent children who were killed by security forces in 2017 should figure in the list.
Shamim Firdous said that the house should include all the children who were innocent but were killed by the forces during the last year.
The House witnessed noisy scenes as opposition members asked the speaker to include all the civilians in the list who lost their lives at the hands of security forces in 2017.
Interestingly, MLA Kupwara Bashir Ahmad Dar also said that the “innocent” driver, Bilal Ahmad who was killed by security forces in Ambush should have been included in the list of obituary references.
While paying homage to the deceased legislators, Dar said their life was inspiration and a guiding vision for the present legislators to perform their duties with due diligence.
MLA Kupwara while paying homage to Ghulam Mohiuddin Sofi said he joined politics after being fed up with the atrocity of the then government.
“The deceased legislators acted as an inspiration. We should not get carried away by some vested interests but should work out strategies for developmental works and serve public,” he said.
During the obituary reference session, NC leader and MLA Kangan stated that 27 deaths were reported in 2017 because of swine flu and it was utter negligence on the part of health and medical education department who failed to control it.
“I don’t know whether the House will pay homage to those 27 people or not but I want to raise this point here so that House will remain informed about the non seriousness of the government,” he said.
NC Leader and MLA Davinder Rana urged the Speaker of LA to document the contribution of the deceased members of the House in form of a booklet “so that their work continues to inspire and guide the generations to come.”
Earlier, Nawang Rigzin Jora, while recalling the contribution of deceased leaders, said that they played major role in uplifting the socio-economic status of the people.
