15-day youth festival concludes

Kulgam: A valedictory function was Tuesday held at Mini Secretariat here which marked the conclusion of 15-daylong Youth Festival 2017-18.

Member of Parliament, Nazir Ahmad Laway, DDC Kulgam, Talat Parvez, SP Kulgam, Sridhar Patil and Principal GDC Kulgam, Prof Bashir Ahmad Rather were among the eminent dignitaries present at the concluding ceremony. The festival was organized by the district administration in collaboration with the Education Department.

The purpose of organizing the festival was to hunt and explore the talent in the district and to channelize the energy of the youth towards a positive direction. During the festival, multifarious events and activities like cycling, racing, adventure activities, essay and debate competitions, athletics, painting competitions were organised in different parts of the district to search for the Princess and Prince Kulgam 2017-18.

After the shortlisting 10 contestants the jury comprising DDC, SP and Principal GDC finally selected Salfi Muqeet of BHSS Yaripora as the Prince Kulgam and Mumtaz Mohiddin of GHSS Kulgam as Princess Kulgam after question-answer session, on the basis of which they were judged. They were felicitated amid praises and were expected to play a positive role for channelizing the energy of youth in a constructive manner.

Speaking on the occasion, MP Laway said that Kulgam has huge unexplored talent that needs to be honed and groomed. He said that district administration should continue such talent hunts in future also.

The DDC thanked the MP and legislators of Kulgam, Noorabad, Devsar and HS Bugh for their support and cooperation in making the talent exploration possible. He further added that events, such as these, provides a platform where the students explore their capacity and such platforms shall be facilitated in future also.

On the occasion, the DDC said that five clubs have been established in the district to involve the students in different activities so that they are able to choose their career according to their interest. These clubs are Literary & Academic club, Art & Music club, Sports club, Health club and Adventure club.

“An educational tour of the participant students shall be organized by the J&K Police”, said the SP Kulgam.

The district officers were also presented mementos who played their active role in organizing the Youth Festival.

The concluding ceremony was attended by ADDC, ADC, ACR, CEO, other district officers, students, parents and media persons.
