Srinagar: Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) Thursday appealed people to boycott Panchayat elections. The resistance leadership said that the local body polls are nothing but a ‘drama’.

JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a joint statement issued here said that “any sort of election under Indian occupational system be it for so-called assembly, parliament, municipal committee or Panchayat is meant only to harm the national interests of Kashmiris.”

“We cannot vote and hence strengthen the hands of those tyrants who separated innocent kids, Maryam and Azra from their mothers and are forcing us to bury mutilated bodies of our kith and kin,” they said.

Appealing people of Kashmir to boycott these Panchayat election announced by the government, JRL leaders said, “Indian rulers and their collaborators who on daily basis trample democracy and humanity, have been using this election drama to negate Kashmiri demand for self-determination and freedom.”

“As a living nation it is our responsibility to safeguard sacrifices rendered by our youth and never forget these sacrifices,” they said, adding that “how can we vote for those so-called rulers and their parties which are hell bent on installing RSS fascism in Jammu Kashmir, who want to change the demography of this land and turn its Muslim majority into minority and who have killed thousands of men and women,” the statement said.

The statement while castigating the ruling elite said that people should not vote in favour of those who snatched eyesight of thousands by indiscriminate use of pellets, who have caged thousands of young and old, who are engaged in vandalizing our houses and putting our localities to flames in these harsh winter days and who are using every tyrant method to suppress our resistance.”

The leaders said that how can any Kashmiri vote and strengthen those who hanged Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru, who used assemblies and institutions to formulate laws providing impunity to ‘killer’ forces which have till now killed more than one Lakh Kashmiris, attacked the chastity of mothers and sisters, killed thousands in custody, disappeared thousands after taking into custody and destroyed properties worth billions across the length and breadth of Kashmir.

JRL said that ‘how can any Kashmiri strengthen tyrants who take pleasure in killing our young ones and compel us to carry mutilated corpses of our dear ones.

“How can anyone of us vote for those who separated innocent kids’ Azra and Maryam from their mothers and deprived them from their love and affection?,” they questioned.

The JRL eaders said that India and the local government repeatedly stage this election drama to hoodwink international community and pro-India parties and their leaders try to lure people in the name of roads, unemployment and other sugar coated slogans.

They said that soon this election ‘drama’ is over, these hypocrites, their masters in Delhi and media declare this vote as a ‘vote for India and use this farce to camouflage atrocities and human rights abuses in Kashmir’.

JRL leaders said that any sort of elections under Indian occupational system, be these for the assembly, parliament, municipal committee or Panchayat are meant only to harm the national interests of Kashmiris, strengthen illegal occupation, and hoodwink the international community.

While appealing for a complete and comprehensive boycott of these elections especially the recently announced Panchayat elections, JRL leaders said that elections and institutions formed by these elections are detrimental to the interests of Kashmiris and “as a living nation we all should keep away from this farce and boycott these elections in totality.”

The leaders said that by exemplary boycott of these elections, Kashmiris will deliver a message to India and to the international community that Kashmiri want freedom from and that they will accept nothing less than freedom and right to self determination.
