Guns roar along LoC in Poonch, no causalities reported
Poonch: Indian and Pakistani armies exchanged heavy fire on Thursday along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu division.
According to defence ministry sources, the Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked and indiscriminate shelling and firing in Degwar area.
“Using small arms, automatics and mortars they targeted military and civilian facilities in Degwar. It started at 6.30am. Indian positions retaliated effectively and strongly,” the defence sources said.
“The Indian Army retaliated. There was no casualty or damage to property on the Indian side,” the sources added.
Tensions heightened between India and Pakistan on the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir after four Indian soldiers, including a major, were killed when armies of India and Pakistan exchanged fire on December 23 in Keri area of Rajouri district.
The Indian Army carried out a retaliatory action on Monday when Indian army killed three Pakistani soldiers in Rawalakot area. However, Pakistan denied the Indian army’s claim about crossing the line of control.
“No Indian soldier crossed over LOC. Indian media claim is continuation of their self defeating projections to satisfy domestic audience,” Major General Asif Ghafoor said.
Earlier on Wednesday Northern Commander Lt General Devraj Anbu visited forward areas of Rajouri district to review the situation on the ground.
Lt General Devraj Anbu “reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness of troops’’, read a tweet from the Northern Command.
He also interacted with officers and jawans and “lauded all ranks for their steadfastness and high morale”, it added. Meanwhile, 881 ceasefire violations were witnessed this year along the LoC and the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir.
