Srinagar: Throwing all the norms to the wind, the school education department has failed to start remedial classes for potential learners in government schools who have failed to qualify their annual examination.

The potential learners are those students from primary to class 9th who could not qualify all the subjects in annual examination.

As per the Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) policy, the school education department has to arrange remedial classes for potential learners and conduct their examination again before the reopening of schools.

“Government has to teach them in winters and conduct exams again. If they fail in second exams then they won’t be promoted to their next classes,” an official said.

Interestingly, this year there are over 13000 potential students in class 8th who couldn’t qualify all subjects.

“As per CCE they have to appear in exams again. But government has not taken any step yet. They are focusing on other issues,”  the official said.

“Besides 8th there are weak students in other classes as well. But government has not arranged remedial classes for them as well,” he said.

Pertinently, around 110 government middle schools have below 50 percent results this year and around a dozen schools had zero percent results which has exposed the poor education standards in government schools.

Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) Dr. G N Itoo when contacted said the students are being given special attention in winter tutorial classes.

“The basic aim of winter tuitions is to provide remedial classed to these students who have not qualified all subjects in their exams,” he said.

He said Chief Education Officers (CEOs)  have been instructed to identify the potential leaner’s and teach them during winters so that they can be promoted to their next classes after qualifying second exam.

“It is a priority with us. We are implementing the scheme in letter and spirit,” he said.
