Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League chief, Mushtaq- ul -Islam has been released from long detention, much to the relief of his family as they were anxious to know his whereabouts.

According to a party statement, Mushtaq was released  Tuesday after about eight and half months of incarceration.

He is the second leader of a political party set free by the government. Earlier Dukhtaran-e-Millat Chief Syedah Ayesia Andrabi and her close aide Fahmeeda Sofi were released on  December 25.

The statement alleged that Mushtaq was subjected to the mental and psychological torture in various police stations and the torture centers.

A top rebel leader who once led  Hizbullah militant outfit, set up Muslim Leauge, a political party after abandoning militancy.

He was lodged in various jails including the central jail at Srinagar and the Kotbalwal central jail at Jammu, his party statement said. (Kashmir Wire)
