Shopian: The residents of Shirmal village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district are up in arms against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for ‘failing to provide adequate water supply to their villages from the past one month’.

The residents said that while the peculiar power cuts have already irked the villagers, the PHE department is making the situation worse by supplying inadequate water supply to the area.

“The authorities are depriving the residents of water for some unknown reasons,” they said, adding that the womenfolk is being forced to walk miles to fetch water from streams and springs.

“In winter, we are being forced to use water of canals for cooking and drinking purposes, which poses a risk to our lives,” Shabir Ahmad said.

“We approached the higher ups several times but unfortunately nothing has been done in this regard,” they said.

Exen PHE Shopian, Nisar Ahmed said that he will look into the matter.

“We will try our best to ensure that water will be supplied to the residents at the earliest,” he said.
