Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani Friday completed eight years under house detention, a Hurriyat spokesperson said.

The spokesperson, according to a statement issued here, said that no court has ever issued any formal detention order for detaining the veteran leader.

The spokesperson strongly condemned the house detention and said that “the rule of law has been thrown to winds in Kashmir.”

Strongly condemning the continued house arrest of its chairman, the spokesperson said that stopping pro-freedom leaders from performing their religious, political and social responsibilities is gross violation of human rights and interference in the personnel and religious rights.

“Police authorities have so far failed to produce any court order or any administrative document in support of this illegal detention. What is the justification in turning his residence into a sub-jail,” asked the spokesman.

“Nobody and not even media can meet him,” said the spokesman and terming these curbs as ‘state terrorism’.

The spokesman added that such cowardice acts are unjustified, unethical and illogical.
