Srinagar: In a shocking incident, a police official who is presently working as Deputy Superintendent in south Kashmir’s Qazigund area threatened an on-duty doctor triggering a strong reaction from police and public alike.

In a video which is currently viral on the social media, a police official identified as Sahil Mahajan is seen threatening the doctor with expletives and abuses.

“Talk to me courteously. I will drag you out ….I will see you tonight,” the police officer is seen telling the doctor in front of his patients and officer’s sub ordinates.

Notably, the police official has approached the doctor to sigh some documents which the medico had refused.

“These things should not happen in future, it is not a good thing for anyone,” Dr Naseer told Kashmir Vision, while giving details of the incident.

Dr Naseer said that the police official wanted his signature on few papers regarding a road accident victim who was admitted here in May early this year. The doctor said that he refused to sign the opinion papers without proper documents which infuriated the police officer.

“An injured patient was attended by me in May and we had at that time referred the patient to the secondary care level at District Hospital Anantnag for specialized treatment,” Dr Naseer said.

“Now they are asking me to sign the “brought dead” certificate of the particular patient from SKIMS Soura, Srinagar. I simply told him that I have referred the patient to the Anantnag hospital and told him to get the documents from there. But the police official turned furious,” Dr Naseer added.

Interestingly, after a video of the incident wherein the cop threatened the doctor, who also tells him to shoot him if he dares, police top officials intervened and ordered the officer in question to report to the Deputy Inspector General of Police office in Anantnag.

Police also said that necessary action will be taken against the officer.

“In reference to the Qazigund incident, we regret it and at the same time assure that necessary action shall be taken into the matter,” a police statement claimed.

“Officer allegedly involved in the incident has been directed to report to the DIG office SKR (south Kashmir range),” the police statement added.

Meanwhile, the doctor appreciated the higher officials of the police department for taking immediate action against the accused officer.

“We sought the apology from the cop and from the authorities. I appreciate that Minister of Education Altaf Bukhari along with other police officials came around the same time yesterday evening and apologized on behalf of the official for this act,” Dr Naseer said.

Dr Naseer said that SSP Pulwama and DIG south Kashmir also called him and apologized on the officer’s behalf.

Meanwhile, the Doctors Association of Kashmir (DAK) termed the incident deplorable and sought to bring legislation against the assault on doctors across the state.
