IGNOU to open study centres in Gurez, Uri

Srinagar: In a bid to extend its footprint to far off areas, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has decided to open its study centres in cut off areas like Uri and Gurez besides its functional centres in Tanghdar and Karnah in Kupwara district.

The announcement was made by regional director of IGNOU Kashmir Mirza Nehal Baig during a press conference at his office here.

 Baig said they have around 43 learning support centres in various parts of Kashmir.

“But our endeavor is to cover the uncovered areas like Nobra, DH pora, Gurez and Uri area as well,” he said.

He said they have five study centres functional in five colleges including Amar Singh college, Nawa Kadal college, SP college, Women’s college and Gandhi College.

“In future we will open study centre in Bemina degree college and Islamia college,” he said.

The Regional director IGNOU said, they have exempted OPENMAT score for students for their direct entry in post graduation (PG) specialized diploma in management.

He said the students will be provided admission for PG diploma courses in human resource management (PGDHRM), financial management (PGDGM), operations management (PGDOM), marketing management (PGDMM) and financial markets practices (PGDFMP) without having qualified OPENMAT for the said courses.

“The admissions will be provided through direct entry to these specialized PG diploma courses without requirement of OPENMAT for January 2018 admission cycle. The aim for exempting students to have Mat scores is to attract more students for admission in IGNOU University,” Baig said.

Baig said the University has also signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with common service centre (CSS), e-governance services India in the Ministry of electronics and information technology government of India with an objective of making online services of IGNOU accessible to learners in remote areas.

“With this arrangement all the prospective-cum-existing learners can access the important services like new registration including scanning, uploading of documents  and completing other examination formalities by making nominal payment of Rs 5 to 60,” he said.

He said they will keep their own facilities available at Panchayat and block level for learners.

“We will hold a workshop in order to train the common service centres (CSC) and VLEs along with the state head of CSC and the list of authorized CSCs will be uploaded on the website of regional centre website as well,” he said.
