Snow avalanche: Body of another missing soldier recovered

Srinagar: With the recovery of the body of another missing soldier today by the rescue teams, the number of bodies recovered so far has gone up to four, defence sources said.

The body of the soldier, who went missing along with two other soldiers after an avalanche hit their camp in Gurez sector of  Bandipora district on December 11-12, was recovered today by the search and rescue teams, the sources said.

The soldier has been identified as rifleman Moorty.

Bodies of two missing soldiers were recovered by the search and rescue teams in Gurez sector of Bandipora district yesterday.

The rescue teams recovered the body of a soldier from Nowgam sector of Kupwara district on Monday.  They said the search for remaining one missing soldier was in progress.

Five soldiers went missing – three in Gurez and two in Nowgam sector of Kupwara – along the line of control on December 11-12 following heavy snowfall in Kashmir.

Three soldiers went missing from a forward post in Kanzalwan sub-sector of Gurez in Bandipora district while Two soldiers had slipped down a slope in Nowgam sector of Kupwara district after heavy snowfall on December 11-12.

The search for the one missing soldier in Nowgam sector is still going on, the sources said.  (Kashmir Wire)
