MLA detained, not allowed to visit Shopian

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police today foiled an attempt by a member of the state assembly Abdul Rashid Sheikh to visit Shopian, the scene of an encounter where two militants and  a young woman were killed, by detaining him here.

Rashid was taken into custody near Zero bridge here and lodged in Rajbagh police station when he was on way to Shopian, sources said.

The sources said Rashid wanted to visit Batamarun village in Shopian where Ruby Jan alias Beauty Jan, was killed yesterday during clashes between protesters and government forces which also left over 50 persons wounded.

 Two militants were also killed in the encounter which left a trail of destruction in the village as six houses suffered  extensive damages and two cowsheds were razed to the ground by blasting the property by the government forces.
