SBM employees protest in Srinagar, demand regularization

Srinagar: All Saakshar Bharat Mission Coordinates Forum (SBM) today held a protest march at MA road in Srinagar. The contractual employees of SBM demanded that they be regularized on the same pattern as daily wagers.

“We appeal Chief Minster Mehbooba Mufti, Education Minister Altaf Bukhari and Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu that our cases may be taken into consideration as we are highly qualified and have good skills and are well experienced,” the protesting employees said.

The SBM was launched by then Prime Minister in 2009 and the scheme is ending at the end of this month. The protesters said that many of them have crossed the maximum age limit under service rules.

The protesters said that from the last seven years they are serving the education department and have no means of livelihood except the current assignment.  

Meanwhile, the protesters threatened that if their demands are not met, they will launch a mass agitation in both divisions of the state.
