Srinagar: After Sub District Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag manhandled a teacher, Minister for Education Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari stated that the issue of beating of a teacher by the official will be taken up with chief secretary.

According to the reports, Bukhari said the act of SDM Kokernag was condemnable, adding that the issue will be taken up with chief secretary of J&K state as well.

Reports said that the said teacher was called by the SDM and asked him to attend the winter tutorials besides performing the duties of BLO. The reports added that the teacher requested the official to relieve him from BLO posting which irked the official and responded with abuses and thrashing.

Earlier, teachers staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Anantnag to protest against the reported thrashing of a teacher by the SDM Kokernag.

The protesters alleged that the teacher was manhandled, abused by the SDM and his subordinates over an issue in delivering his duties as BLO.

The said teacher, according to the protesting teachers, was already suspended for not attending winter tutorials.

They also threatened to boycott the winter tutorial programme of the government if they failed to take action against the SDM.

Earlier on December 4, SDM Zainpora in Pulwama thrashed a senior surgeon for not wearing an apron during the duty hours.  The video of the SDM scolding the doctor has gone viral on social media, following which the Doctors’ Association of Kashmir has sought a strong disciplinary action against the SDM for publicly humiliating the surgeon.
