Srinagar: Hours after National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah announced to contest the next assembly elections on its own, the State Congress said that if any party sees their future in aligning with communal forces like RSS and BJP, then they are free to choose.

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir said that if any party sees their future safe with communal forces like RSS and BJP, then they are free to choose.

Mir said that he does not know in what context Farooq Abdullah said about the pre-poll alliance and added that their party never approached any party for the alliance.

“Congress party has never given any application to any party on the matter of alliance,” he said.

“We are the only party in the country who is fighting the communal forces and we don’t need any one to support us on this issue. Winning or losing the election does not matter, we are fighting it alone and we will continue to do so,” Mir told ‘Kashmir Vision’.

Pertinently, Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday said that National Conference would contest the next assembly election “alone” and bring legislation on regional autonomy in the first session of the legislature after forming the government.

“We won’t have alliance with any party,” NC President said,” adding that a stable, strong and people-friendly government is the “answer to problems facing Jammu and Kashmir.”

Pertinently, Mir said that those parties who want to fight the communal forces in future will be joining us adding that they are capable of going alone for the next assembly polls.

“We don’t need to beg before anybody. We are capable enough to go alone in the polls,” he added.

Mir said that people know well about the past incidents where National Conference allied with the communal forces to gain power.

“People know how they (National Conference) shook hands with the communal forces in the past and then recently PDP’s alliance with the BJP and the RSS. Congress has never fought elections to gain power. Our basic policy is to fight the communal forces,” he added.

When asked whether the congress party will ally with the NC post assembly polls, he said that it will be premature to say about that because there is a lot of time for the polls.

“We can’t tell about that ahead of time. We shall see the situation at that time and then decide accordingly,” he added.
