Electric wires pose threat to Ramhall villagers
Kupwara: While the state received a fresh snowfall, the villagers of Ramahall block Kupwara fear electric lines over trees, damaged poles.
The inhabitants of several villages in Ramhall area of Kupwara district, especially Kalmoona, Patchkoot, are living under constant fear and threat of death and destruction of property with overhead electric lines tied with branches of trees.
The mesh of electric lines woven through trees and damaged poles are susceptible to short circuits and faults during rains and snow.
“We face lot of problems during rains and snow. These lines get damaged frequently during rains and regular faults are common which puts our lives and property at risk,” said the residents of these villages.
The people of these villages have demanded Power Development Department (PDD) to erect concrete electric poles and align lines on these poles instead on trees and the damaged lines should be replaced with new electric lines.
“The electric lines are not suitable for transmission. Every day these lines fell on ground due to faults and we tie them together to make them functional. It is pathetic,” said Idress Ahmad, a student.
“The department has failed to erect the electric poles and replacing the old, damaged transmission lines with new,” said a Sarpanch of Kalmoona, adding that the transmission lines were lying very low to the ground , thus posing a danger to the lives of people.
An official of the PDD posted in the area wishing anonymity confirmed that they are shot of poles, wires and transformers. “How can we fulfill the demand of people,” he said.
