Pathetic health care: Accident victims return without treatment from Kupwara district hospital

Kupwara: A pathetic state of health care at Kupwara district hospital came to light on Tuesday, when two persons injured in a road accident at Lolab bye pass were brought to the hospital but returned back without treatment being provided to them despite waiting for more than an hour, relatives said today.

There was no employee present in casualty of the hospital and the relatives of the injured were forced to take them to Sogam hospital for treatment, 25 Kms from Kupwara, while blood was oozing from the injuries, they claimed.

The persons who suffered head injuries in the accident were identified as Mohammad Shaban Ganie (35), son of Mohammad Abdullah Ganie and Ishfaq Ahmad Mir (32), son of Mohammad Abdullah Mir, both residents of Wavoora village in Lolab valley.

“There was no employee present in the casualty, when we brought the injured to the causality. We waited for more than an hour while blood was oozing from wounds of both but no employee turned up, ” Javid Mir, relative of an injured told ‘Kashmir Wire’.

“The hospital has become a slaughter house and the medical staff is playing with the lives of patients and accident victims in particular. We were forced to take the injured to Sogam hospital from district headquarters for treatment and in the process there was a huge blood loss, ” he added.

Earlier a Sumo vehicle coming from Lolab to Kupwara met with an accident at bye pass road near Kupwara after the vehicle skidded off the road due to slippery conditions following snowfall this morning.

Dr Prasad Singh, Chief Medical Officer Kupwara said, “I am in a meeting and can talk to you after sometime.” (Kashmir Wire)
