JK Women’s Commission wakes up
Srinagar: The ‘molestation’ bid on Srinagar born actress Zahira Waseem, has caught the attention of the Jammu and Kashmir State Women’s Commission as it has activated its office to keep a check on molestation bids, domestic violence or the violence taking place at work places. The commission has asked people to report any such happening to the office of State Women’s Commission without any delay.
In a tweet, Commission’s Chairman Nayeema Mahjoor said that all those women who are facing any sort of violence, be it at home or at work places, they should immediately contact the contact number kept exclusively for women.
“Plz circulate this no 7889799509 among all for lodging complaint regarding any issue or problem any women is facing at home or office,” she tweeted, amid buzz over Zaira Waseem’s alleged molestation bid.
The commission has kept the number exclusively for women who can text, or drop a whatsapp message or even can give a missed call on the number, “JK state commission for women has kept this no exclusively for women to txt, whatusup, message or give miss call. Commission will contact u soon,” added tweet added.
The mentioned number is Nayeema Mahjoor’s personal number which she has circulated on the social media, so that those who facing any kind of harassment can contact her immediately.
The development came after the alleged molestation bid of Zaira Waseeem, also known as ‘Dangal Girl,’ on board a New Delhi- Mumbai flight on Air Vistara was reported on Saturday.
In an Instagram live video, during which she broke down several times, Zaira said “she was on board Air Vistara flight from Delhi to Mumbai when a co-passenger sitting behind her put up his feet on her armrest.” When she objected, the man reportedly claimed he was resting his feet due to “turbulence”.
Notably, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had also said she was appalled at what happened with Kashmiri girl and ‘Dangal star’ Zaira Wasim. She had also sought “strict action” against the accused.
“Any harassment/crime against women should be dealt with swiftly & effectively. As a mother of 2 daughters I am appalled at what happened with @zairawasimz. Hope the relevant authorities take strict action,” Mehbooba tweeted.
Meanwhile, a 39-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly molesting actor Zaira Wasim onboard a Delhi-Mumbai flight on Saturday night—a businessman and was identified as Vikash Sachdev, booked under section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of IPC, and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
