Three militants killed on Sopore-Kupwara highway,  internet Snapped

Srinagar: Three militants have been killed in an overnight brief gunfight at Younsu on Sopore- Kupwara highway.

A police officer told GNS that a Joint team of Army’s 22 RR, CRPF and SOG cordoned off Younsu area of Handwara at around 12:30 am following specific information about presence of some militants.

As the joint team fired some warning shots towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants tried to break the cordon. However the joint team engaged them in a gunfight, the officer said.

He said the gunfight continued about an hour resulted into the killing three holed up militants.

The officer said that the bodies along with as many rifles were recovered and there identity are being ascertained.

DGP S P VAID confirmed the killing of three militants in a tweet.

” In Unsoo Handwara all the three Pakistani militants have been neutralized by the joint team of forces”, DGP tweeted.

Meanwhile authorities have directed telecom companies to snap Internet services in parts of Sopore and Kupwara in wake of militant killings.
