Police detains HR activist ahead of proposed protest

Srinagar: The Human shield victim from Budgam, Farooq Ahmad Dar and other victims and their families Saturday staged a protest at Srinagar’s Pratap Park against what they termed as the ‘gross Human Rights violations’ in Kashmir.
The human shield victim from Budgam district, Nasrullah Khan, 36, the victim of ‘army torture’ in Lolab area of Kupwara district, family of Zahid Manzoor, a recent pellet victim from downtown along with the civil society members under the banner of International Forum for Justice assembled at Srinagar’s Pratap Park and chanted slogans against the HR violations in Kashmir.
The victims pleaded for justice during the protest.
Majid Zargar, one of the protesters said that the international community has maintained criminal silence over the long pending Kashmir issue.
He said that the world community must play its role in resolving the Kashmir issue to end the disputed nature of the Valley.
The protesters also condemned the detaining of Ahsan Untoo.
They also said that all the prisoners languishing in different jails must be released at the earliest. “The prisoners languishing in Tihar jail are facing hardships. All the Kashmiri prisoners languishing in different jails should be released,” they said.
Earlier, Police detained International Forum for Justice Chairman, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo prior to the proposed protest in view of the World Human Rights Day.
The civil society members were assembling for the protest at Srinagar’s Pratap Park during which police reached the spot and detained Untoo to prevent from participating in the protest. (KNS)
