Er Rasheed appeals for unity among Muslims

Srinagar: Awami Itehaad Party (AIP) president and MLA Langate, Engineer Abdul Rasheed Sheikh on Saturday stressed for unity between various sectarian groups.

Er Rasheed as per a statement issued here said that the religious preachers have to play the vital role to expose the propaganda against Muslim Ummah by those who want to deprive Muslims of their genuine political rights by portraying them as radicals and anti-peace.

Addressing a book release function, Er Rasheed said, “On one hand Muslims are facing a very dark and ugly situation as their rights are being bulldozed but on the other hand the difference of opinion between Islamic scholars and their followers has created huge misunderstandings between the Muslims themselves. It is high time to keep controversial issues aside and focus on the real teachings of Islam and tell the world community that Muslims want peace with dignity and are not against any society.”

“The religious preachers need to be role models not for Muslims but also for the non Muslims as their approach towards issues at domestic and international level has to be pragmatic, consistent and truthful. We need a unity within Ummah and that is the only way out to make our voice heard,” he said.

AIP president added that it is not common Muslims but the scholars and preachers who would be held always responsible for any division within the Ummah and they need to introspect and rise to the occasion so as to ensure that the energy of Ummah is used for the betterment of society and not for encouraging divisions within various schools of thoughts.

Those who spoke on the occasion included Justice  Hasnain Masoodi, Zaffar Manhas, Ab. Ahad Farhad, Gh. Nabi Inqalabi and Rafiq Masoodi.
