Amid gunshots forces launch cordon-and-search operation in Handwara

Srinagar: Government forces on Sunday cordoned off Hanjin village of Kralgund,  Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Official sources told news agency GNS that a joint team of army’s 30 RR and Special Operation Group (SOG) of police cordoned Hanjin village following intelligence inputs about the presence of some militants.

“The forces also launched combing operation amid some warning shots in the forest area close to the Hanjin village”, they said.

A police officer when contacted confirmed the cordon-and-search operation in the village.

Meanwhile, sources said that the area continues to be under forces’ siege and there was no exchange of gunfire when this report was being filed.

Pertinently, forces conducted searches in the village several times since last 10 days. Police so far has claimed to have arrested two OGWs along with arms and ammunition besides busting a militant hideout in the area. (GNS)
