Valley fumes in anger against US ‘verdict’

Srinagar: Denouncing the US President’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Kashmir witnessed clashes and protests after the Friday prayers in view of Joint Resistance Leadership’s protest call.

Protests were held in twin districts of Anantnag and Pulwama after Friday prayers against the US decision. The protesters were carrying placards and banners seeking revocation of US decision and intervention of the international community.

According to the eyewitnesses, in Anantnag, the protesters hurled stones on the troopers deployed in the area at Achabal Adda. However, the troopers chased away the protesters and shopkeepers also downed their shutters. The situation soon became normal in the area.

In the main town of Pulwama, protesters hurled stones on government forces who retaliated with tear gas shelling resulting in clashes. As per sources clashes were going on in Murran chowk Pulwama till late in the evening.

Meanwhile, in Srinagar, protests were held by the activists of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) in Maisuma locality located in the commercial hub of Lal Chowk.

The protesters were carrying placards and banners seeking revocation of US decision and intervention of the international community.

In Hasanabad locality of Srinagar, a huge rally was taken out against the US decision.

The protesters set to fire the effigy of the US president Donald Trump and shouted slogans like ‘Death to America’ and ‘Death to Israel’.

Protests were also held in north Kashmir with people taking out marches and raising slogans against the US and Israel.

A protest rally was also held in Gurez, border tehsil of Bandipora district against the US decision.

Scores of people held a protest demonstration in Dawar area of Gurez after Friday prayers, denouncing the US decision. The protestors, amid slogans against Trump administration, marched from Jamia Masjid to Tehsil office Gurez.

In central Kashmir’s Budgam district, thousands of people marched after Friday prayers to protest the US decision. The protesters raised slogans against Trump and Israel.

The protesters were carrying placards with written slogans like “Death to Israel, death to America”.

The protesters hit the streets of Budgam just after the Friday prayers. They also burnt the flags of the United States and Israel which had the pictures of Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu painted on them.

Earlier, the local authorities disallowed the Congregational (Friday) prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar to prevent anti-US protests.

As per reports, heavy number of forces were deployed in Nowhatta area of Downtown, Srinagar to prevent people from gathering at Jamia Masjid.

The Joint Resistance Leadership had called for protests after Congregational (Friday) prayers against US decision of Making Jerusalem capital of Isreal.
