Traffic awareness campaign held, prizes distributed

Sopore: With an aim to spread awareness among people regarding the traffic management, Sopore Police on Thursday organized traffic awareness programme.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sopore Harmeet Singh Mehta led a campaign on road safety initiated by Sopore Police.

As part of this campaign, students of SRM Welkin Higher Secondary School Sopore, MET Higher Secondary School Sopore, Sanctorum Public School Sopore and The Edge (Youth of Volunteer’s) provided with posters, containing important messages on road safety endorsed by SSP Sopore.

“I pledge my support for this campaign and commit myself towards the achievement of worthy goals. I am with you in this campaign to create awareness. We are grateful to these schools and the volunteers of Edge for leading the campaign towards creating awareness, preventing accidents,” said SSP Sopore.

Encourage Over speeding, inadequate protection (not wearing helmets/seatbelts), distracted driving (use of mobile phone, etc.) and not being alert are some of the key reasons recorded for road accidents.

This road safety awareness drive encourages people to be more responsible while driving and follow road safety regulations.

It called upon people to follow simple steps like wearing a helmet/seatbelt, avoiding phone calls while driving, avoiding over-speeding and being alert while driving which could reduce road accidents.

Prize distribution ceremony was later held at Police Post Fruit Mandi Sopore.

SDPO Sopore, Rafiabad, DySP DAR, DTI Baramulla, DO Fruit Mandi and other officials attended the campaign.
